With over 10,000 veterinary scanners sold worldwide, Pie Data UK has built a reputation for providing the veterinary practice with high quality, yet affordable, ultrasound scanners. Continual contact with a wide range of animal scientists and veterinary practitioners has provided considerable knowledge and understanding of what the practitioner is looking for.

Small and companion animal ultrasound (canine/feline).

In today's faster pace world a favourite pet is treated more like a member of the family than just a common animal. When the animal is ill the owners are more likely to use all means possible to help diagnose and treat their pets problem. Since ultrasound is an ideal non-invasive tool it helps to establish a faster and more accurate diagnosis. A high quality ultrasound scanner is fast becoming an accepted piece of standard diagnostic imaging equipment for any progressive small or mixed animal practice. Doppler is increasingly the method of choice for detailed investigations.

Large animal Ultrasound (equine / bovine)

Veterinary ultrasound started with pregnancy detection in equine and bovine industry. Through the years the advantages of using ultrasound as a standard practice method for reproductive evaluations has become very well known to veterinarians. In reproduction and selective breeding of both equines and bovines an area of growing importance is Ovum Pick Up.

Other uses of ultrasound are becoming just as routine such as tendon evaluations and treatment analysis, chest studies for pleural effusions and abscess detection, abdominal ultrasound for tumour, cyst, calculi and abscess evaluations along with cardiac examinations for genetic abnormalities and potential performance evaluation. Ultrasound is being used for so many applications beyond the proven and accepted pregnancy evaluation and twinning detection.

Exotic animals and birds

As people are awakening to the desperate battle being waged to preserve animals from extinction a small but influential group of veterinarians and animal science researchers are using the benefits of non-invasive diagnostic imaging to help in this battle. Apart from ultrasound's use as an important research and diagnostic imaging tool, it is also being used to help collect the ocytes (eggs) of these endangered species for producing a new generation through In Vitro fertilization.

Ruminants and camelids

Ultrasound scanning has become an important part of the reproductive evaluations done on sheep, goats, llamas and camels. Evaluating for pregnancy, multiple gestations and foetal viability quickly and easily make this an ideal mechanism in dealing with large herds of animals. In some parts of the world the camel is used for racing and tendon injury evaluations can be just as important as they are in the equine industry.

Food industry

After an animal has been slaughtered the quality of the meat is usually established through visual inspection. Ultrasound however provides the producer and / or the processor a means to evaluate many facets of the animal's food potential while the animal is still alive. The accurate determination of back fat thickness, area of the rib eye or loin eye and a high quality index (marbling score) of the loin can be easily accomplished with the use of a high quality ultrasound scanner. this datum can help to determine % lean yield, days of feeding in feedlot, desirable breeding attributes and quality attributes desired for specific marketplaces
